Rev Julie Miles

Julie MilesA message from Julie:

As many of you know last Sunday I had an accident in church when I fell and broke my hip. The fracture was pinned on Tuesday, and I am not longer in pain but now have the lengthy task of learning to walk again. I leave hospital on Saturday to go to the Grange at Ashby for a short while whilst I wait for a place to become available at Sir John Mason House for residential rehabilitation. I am really fortunate to be going there and will be working hard to be back with you as soon as I can. I am really sad to be missing my first Advert and Christmas celebrations in our parishes.

Thank you all so much for your cards, prayers, thoughts and good wishes. I have felt wrapped in prayer and you will not know how much this, and your love and care has supported me over the past week.

At Christmas God came to earth as a vulnerable baby to share his love with everyone. I have felt very vulnerable at times this week, but it was in these moments that I truly experienced the love and compassion of God at work.

Julie is Assistant Curate (Deanery Enabler) for the Isle of Axholme. The daughter of a British soldier Julie spent her early and teenage years travelling around Britain and the world before finally settling in Godalming in Surrey where she met and married her husband Graham. They moved to Doncaster 3 years later and then to Crowle where they have lived for the last 25 years.

Julie’s early career was as an accountant and then in 2004 she trained as a teacher of Religious Education and began a 17-year career at the St. Lawrence Academy as Head of Religious Education. Following a period of discernment for ordination Julie trained at the Lincoln School of Theology and was ordained deacon during the pandemic in 2020 and priested in 2021.  She served her curacy at St. Lawrence, Frodingham and All Saints, New Brumby and it was to these parishes she was licensed as a Minister in Secular Employment following the completion of her curacy, as she continued in her fulltime role as an RE teacher and chaplain to the academy.

In September 2024 she made the decision to go part time at the academy and she will continue to work there for two days a week as chaplain and teacher of RE alongside her new role on the Isle of Axholme. She enjoys working with young people and in addition to being a teacher and academy chaplain she is also Chaplain to the St. Lawrence Academy Combined Cadet Force and leads a Youth Emmaus group, a joint initiative between St. Lawrence Academy and church.

In her spare time Julie, along with Graham and their two dogs, enjoys spending time discovering the beauty of the British Isles in their motorhome. She also enjoys swimming, reading, cross stich, gardening and is a supporter of the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team.
